FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BOIL WATER ORDER ISSUED FOR WATERVILLE VALLEY WATER SYSTEM DUE TO E. COLI DETECTION
Waterville Valley, NH – June 9th, 2026
The Town of Waterville Valley has issued a Boil Water Order for customers served by the Waterville Valley public water system following the detection of E. coli bacteria in the drinking water system.
E. coli bacteria are indicators of potential contamination and may indicate that disease-causing organisms could be present in the water. As a precautionary measure, all residents, businesses, visitors, and property owners served by the Town's water system are advised to boil water before using it for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, food preparation, or any other consumption-related purposes.
Customers should bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute and allow it to cool before use. Bottled water may also be used as an alternative.
The Boil Water Order is effective immediately and will remain in place until the Town completes additional testing, confirms that the water meets all state and federal drinking water standards, and receives approval from the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services to lift the order.
Town staff and water system operators are actively investigating the source of the contamination and taking all necessary corrective actions to protect public health and restore water quality. Additional water samples are being collected and analyzed.
The Town will provide updates as information becomes available through the Town website, social media channels, local media outlets, and other public notification methods.
Residents are encouraged to inform neighbors, tenants, guests, and others who may not receive this notice directly.
For additional information, please contact:
Ed Mullen
Town Manager
Town of Waterville Valley

The Town appreciates the public's cooperation and understanding as we work to resolve this matter and ensure the continued safety of our drinking water supply.
