1st time on this side of the bridge. So thick with overgrowth, took some chopping to get any where. Utilized a Cold Steel Gladius. An excellent blade for chopping. But next time? Full sleeves, jeans, and boots. Two canisters of bug spray. One for hornets, one for wasps. Idc, they get both barrels.

"What are you going to do with a bridge?"

The question my brother Josh Shepherd and I are currently in the process of answering.

The short answer is we will restore the bridge, spandrel by spandrel methodically, and hopefully permanently. We will do this through community involvement, grants, and other forms of fund raising.

"Why?"

The Rouche De Bouef was the first landmark of the Great Black Swamp, and had been used by First Nations peoples for time unknown for councils. It was partly destroyed by an unfortunate policy the early American government had of destroying the sacred to those who came first.

The damage to the Rock isn't repairable. We hope to preserve the current state and return the ability of Native peoples to use the Rock.

For this to be possible, the Interurban Bridge must be restored. Although it will never be used for traffic, the Bridge will used again.

-As a trail/path. The River Loop Trail. A trail that links the current Waterville Bridge path with the new Interurban Bridge path. Creating a beautiful loop for biking/walking/etc.

-As a setting for events. Like weddings and corporate parties.

-As the extended grounds of the annual Rouche De Bouef festival held every year in Waterville.

-The site for the Rock the Rouche Music Festival.

-A campground with beautiful and unique camping spots.

These are just a few of the ideas. We'd love to hear yours in the comments!

We are looking for volunteers. Anything you can do to help, we would appreciate! We currently are seeking a lawyer, an engineer, and an artist.

Thank you for your interest in the Rouche De Bouef Interurban Bridge!
