As this long weekend concludes…

Remember there are families out there who set a place at the table that never gets filled. Moms, dads, children, and partners who gave everything so the rest of us could have days exactly like this one.

As a department built on the same promise of service and sacrifice, we feel the weight of that deeply. We understand, in our own way, what it means to put on a uniform and choose something greater than yourself.

The City of Watervliet 's Memorial Day parade will kick off Monday, May 25th, 2026 at 10:00 am from the Watervliet High School.

The parade will leave the High School (12th Ave) heading east on 19th Street to 2nd Avenue. From 2nd Avenue, the parade will head south towards Veterans Memorial Park (2nd Ave @ 16th Street) concluding at Veterans Memorial Pool.

Beginning 7:00 am on Monday, May 25th, there will be no parking on the entire stretch of 19th Street (both north and south sides). Cars parked in violation will be ticketed and towed by the Watervliet Police Department. The parking restrictions will end once the parade has concluded.

Beginning at 9:00am on Monday, May 25th, several road closures will take affect for the parade.

Those roads are:

19th Street from 12th Avenue to 2nd Avenue

2nd Avenue from 23rd Street to 15th Street

16th Street from west of Broadway (near the McDonalds entrance) to 3rd Avenue.

All traffic through the 19th Street corridor shall be detoured to 25th Street.

We are currently investigating a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian at the intersection of 19th St and 4th Ave. The roadway is closed at this time while emergency crews work to investigate and clear the scene.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes until further notice. Please use caution and allow extra travel time if you are nearby.
