LEGISLATION UPDATE
There is still pending legislation that may affect the Post 9/11 GI Bill and TEB. While these bills have not been passed yet, they could seriously impact benefits that Soldiers and Dependents may receive. House Resolution (HR) 3016 was passed in February and sent to the Senate but is not yet scheduled for a vote. If passed and enacted, the bill could affect the following:

Cuts the MHA in half for children using transferred benefits (HR3016 only)
Adds Title 10, Section 12304a and 12304b as qualifying service. HR3016 would apply 180 days after enactment, S2921 is retroactive
Adds the ability for Soldiers who lost CH1607 eligibility to elect for Post 9/11 (S2921 only)
The MHA change would apply to anyone who does not transfer prior to the law's enactment date. So it is even more important that we counsel Soldiers to TEB as soon as they become eligible and to transfer benefit months to all of their dependents.

Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR) is for Reservists with a six-year obligation in the Selected Reserve who are actively drilling.
Monthly rates for full time $368.00, ¾ time $275.00, ½ time $183.00 and less than ½ time $92.00.

The VA Rep at your school can verify your MGIB eligibility without a copy of your Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE).

Good News for Soldiers wanting to improve their original ASVAB score! There is no limit to the number of times that the AFCT can be administered during a Soldier’s career, however, it will not be administered no earlier than 6 months between each retest.

HR 3016 was passed by the House and is currently PENDING in the Senate. This bill includes numerous changes to education benefits for Soldiers, including a 50% reduction in the Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) for children and the addition of time served in a medical hold status under Title 10, Section 12301h as qualifying time for the Post-9/11 GI Bill.

Soldiers who transfer their Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits BEFORE this bill becomes law will retain the full MHA for their children while those who wait risk receiving reduced benefits.
