In 1995, Dolly Parton started mailing books to children in her home county to inspire children to love reading in honor of her dad, who couldn’t read or write.

That idea lives here too. Every month, 1,232 children in Oconee County find a book in the mailbox — because of neighbors who fund it, volunteers who run it, and a woman from Sevier County, TN who started it all.

Our community signed on to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in 2021 to give our children the best start in life. Inspired by Dolly Parton’s own dad, who couldn’t read or write.

While our hearts are incredibly sad today, we’re more inspired than ever to continue this important mission. Together, we are building a brighter future for our children.

Thank you, Dolly. We will always love you.

Dolly made this program possible for children in our county. We’re heartbroken to hear of her passing. We will strive to honor her legacy by continuing our commitment to inspire a love of reading through gifting books free of charge to children from birth to age five in our community.

Blessings upon blessings! Antioch Christian Church spent an evening of their Revival Week serving in our community. We are so grateful for the crew that came to OARC to help us prepare for a new year of Food for Kids! They brought 414 jars of peanut butter and lots of energy for deep cleaning, inventory, fixing and assembling, and checked so many items off the to-do list!

The annual Kirby Smart Family Foundation Giving Day celebration was such a wonderful and special event. We are thankful for the generosity and commitment they show to our community and for all they do to make a difference in the lives of others.

We are so grateful to be part of this amazing partnership! Go Dawgs!

Mentors like these make a difference!
Oconee Mentor Program needs volunteers to become mentors!
Mentors attend a one time training session, complete a background check and request a school of choice. Thirty minutes each week, with flexible scheduling, makes a difference in the life of a student!

That’s a wrap! We have had such a wonderful time with all of our Summer Food for Kids volunteers over the past few months! This week Oconee Fellowship youth helped pack and North Oconeee teachers and staff delivered! In addition to the weekly food we, we were able to provide each family with a yummy casserole from the Picnic Basket!
