Hearing loss can lead to learning, speech, and behavioral problems – and it can make it harder for your child to connect with other students.

School hearing screenings catch issues early, so nothing gets missed in class.

If you have concerns about your child’s hearing, speak with your child’s pediatrician.

Hearing screenings are provided at all public, private, and parochial schools for children in preschool, kindergarten, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade.

These two young ladies are recent graduates of the Safe@Home class with Taylor Roche, our Health Educator! This class is part of our Safe Sitter program line up and teaches 4th - 6th graders how to handle emergencies, treat minor injuries, and teaches safe habits. Congratulations girls!

If you see a bat, give it space!🦇

Bats can sometimes carry rabies, a disease that can make people and animals very sick.

🚫STAY AWAY from bats. Never pick up or touch a bat — even if it looks hurt or isn't moving.

If you find a bat in your house, don't touch it with your bare hands.
➡️Always avoid direct contact and wear leather gloves if you have to handle the bat.
➡️To capture the bat, contain it to a room or trap it in a box/blanket.
➡️For help removing it, contact local animal control.

Once the bat is captured, call your local health department. They'll evaluate the exposure and determine next steps for testing.

Congratulations to our 2026 Iroquois County Fair prize winner, Kayla from Watseka! 🎉

Kayla won our Health and Wellness basket. It included a Fitbit watch with accessories, mini first aid kit, insulated water bottle, and other health related items.

In collaboration with the Kankakee County Public Health Department, we are excited to bring a Naloxone (Narcan) Barney Box to our community! 💜

Barney Boxes provide FREE Narcan kits and resources - helping to reverse opioid overdoses, save lives, reduce stigma, and make this life-saving medication more accessible to anyone that needs it.

The Barney Box is located just outside the west entrance door to the public health department and is available 24/7.
