We are deeply disappointed by the recent allegations involving César Chávez.

For many years, the Friends of Watsonville Parks and Community Services nonprofit in partnership with the City of Watsonville have hosted the César Chávez Community Awards to honor individuals who reflect the values of service, integrity, and commitment to community that have long inspired our region.
In light of these recent allegations, we believe it is important to take a thoughtful and responsible step forward.

In response, we will be renaming the event and awards to the Watsonville Community Impact Awards.

This decision reflects our responsibility to ensure that the recognition we provide continues to align with the values we stand for as a community.

While this moment is disappointing, we will continue to turn to our community for strength, guidance, and inspiration.

Watsonville’s strength has always come from its people—their resilience, their compassion, and their commitment to lifting one another up. That is what we will continue to honor and celebrate.

The Friends of Watsonville Parks and Community Services are now accepting nominations for their 24th Annual Cesar Chavez Community Awards, being held on March 26th in the Civic Plaza Community Room at City Hall.

DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS IS MARCH 5.

The Cesar Chavez Community Awards recognize individuals, organizations, and businesses that help contribute a positive and lasting impact to the Watsonville community.

Open Streets/Calles Libres (Dia De Los Mu***os edition) is THIS SAT at the Watsonville Plaza. 12-4pm.

Free and open streets for bike riding, walking, rolling, yoga, family games, face painting and interactive activities, altars, folklorico and cultural performances, local food with $1 off coupons at Plaza Vigil businesses and live music and performances. All ages.

Join the Friends of Watsonville Parks and Community Services, Mayor Maria Orozco, and the City of Watsonville in our shared vision of lifting community spirits this holiday season by raising funds to decorate downtown Main Street. This effort will complement the City's work of decorating the City Plaza, creating a memorable and festive experience for all.

We invite you to be part of this joyful endeavor. We are seeking businesses and community members to sponsor this effort and help cover the cost of the new decorations.
