We are deeply disappointed by the recent allegations involving César Chávez.
For many years, the Friends of Watsonville Parks and Community Services nonprofit in partnership with the City of Watsonville have hosted the César Chávez Community Awards to honor individuals who reflect the values of service, integrity, and commitment to community that have long inspired our region.
In light of these recent allegations, we believe it is important to take a thoughtful and responsible step forward.
In response, we will be renaming the event and awards to the Watsonville Community Impact Awards.
This decision reflects our responsibility to ensure that the recognition we provide continues to align with the values we stand for as a community.
While this moment is disappointing, we will continue to turn to our community for strength, guidance, and inspiration.
Watsonville’s strength has always come from its people—their resilience, their compassion, and their commitment to lifting one another up. That is what we will continue to honor and celebrate.
We remain committed to recognizing those who make a meaningful and positive impact in our community every day. Limited tickets are still available on Eventbrite for the Watsonville Community Awards. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/24th-annual-watsonville-community-impact-awards-tickets-1984833731120
