Fathers play an important and sacred role in raising children. As providers, protectors, and leaders of their families, they help shape the lives of the next generation. I am blessed to be the father of seven children and grateful for the opportunity to be there for them every day. Happy Father's Day to all the dads who serve their families with love and dedication.

Village of Fredonia Awarded $75,000 Grant for Stormwater Resilience Planning!

The Fund for Lake Michigan has awarded the Village of Fredonia a $75,000 grant to support the Fredonia Creek Stormwater Resilience Planning Project.

The grant funding will allow the Village to retain an engineering firm to develop a comprehensive, village-wide stormwater management plan. The plan will identify existing and potential stormwater challenges throughout Fredonia, including parks, public properties, streets, and other infrastructure, while providing long-term strategies to reduce flooding risks and improve watershed resilience.

In addition to guiding future stormwater improvements, the completed plan will position the Village to pursue additional local, state, and federal grant opportunities for stormwater mitigation and infrastructure improvements.

"The Milwaukee River we see today would have been unthinkable 50 years ago. Today, people are kayaking, swimming and fishing from downtown Milwaukee to West Bend. The cleanup of the Milwaukee River has only been possible with committed effort of communities, organizations and individuals throughout the watershed. With this grant, the Village of Fredonia will continue to do their part to keep our beautiful river clean for future generations to enjoy," said Casey Eggleston, Program Manager.

Christophe Jenkins, Village Administrator, emphasized the importance of proactive planning, "Stormwater management is one of those things that the average resident may not think about on a day-to-day basis, but having a mitigation plan in place allows the Village to prepare, assess risk, and be good stewards of the properties within our jurisdiction."

The Village extends its sincere appreciation to the Fund for Lake Michigan for its investment in Fredonia's future. By planning today for tomorrow's challenges, the Village will be better equipped to protect public infrastructure, enhance environmental stewardship, and preserve the health of the Fredonia Creek and the greater Milwaukee River watershed for generations to come.
