PUBLIC NOTICE | HARDEE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS MEETING

The Hardee County Board of County Commissioners will hold its Regular Board Meeting on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the Hardee County Agri-Civic Center, located at:

515 Civic Center Drive
Wauchula, FL 33873

Please note that this meeting will be held at the Agri-Civic Center rather than the BOCC Commission Chambers.

The meeting schedule is as follows:
8:30 AM – Meeting Begins
No later than 1:30 PM – Board will recess
6:00 PM – Meeting Reconvenes
9:00 PM – Time Certain Adjournment

Residents are encouraged to attend and participate in the meeting. *Agendas and supporting materials will be available prior to the meeting at www.hardeecounty.net.

This woman has done an amazing job for the City and the County in spite of every obstacle that has been thrown at her! She’s strong and smart, and a leader in every sense of the word.

As we close out another remarkable Rotary year, we’d like to extend our sincere gratitude to our outgoing Club President, Olivia Minshew, for her outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment to the Rotary Club of Hardee County.

For nearly 11 years, Olivia has exemplified what it means to live the Rotary motto of Service Above Self. Her dedication to our club, our community, and Rotary’s mission has inspired those around her and helped strengthen the impact we make throughout Hardee County.

A Rotarian of the Year recipient in 2021 and a past Assistant Governor for Rotary District 6890 Area 2, Olivia has consistently answered the call to serve, not only within our club, but across our district. This past year as Club President, she led with integrity, compassion, and a genuine heart for service, encouraging our members to continue making a difference both locally and globally.

Although I’m unable to attend the retirement party this afternoon, I would like to say “thank you” to our retiring County Manager Terry Atchley. I’ve already expressed to him how impressed I’ve been with the job he’s done.

I was in office when he applied for the job, and I took part in the interview process. I interviewed him three times, and asked many, many questions. I’m sure no one that knows me is surprised by that. There was not one answer that he gave that made me feel the least bit unsure that he was the best candidate for the job. I had a couple friends that tried to convince me that we should look further, interview more people, possibly hire someone from out of county. I had it to do over again. I would do the exact same thing.

He’s worked hard, represented our County well as a professional and Godly man. He has experience, and knowledge, and professional relationships that helped our County be seen. He worked long hours and I never heard him complain. For anyone that does not agree, I’ve seen it firsthand. We owe a debt of gratitude to this man for many positive changes, and for maintaining the beauty of our County. Best of luck to you, Terry. I’m sure you won’t be still.

I wish the best as well to John Eason, our incoming County Manager. He has a history of experience in our county in many different areas that I’m sure will serve the residents well.
