Residents are advised that blue-green algae blooms have been observed in portions of the Peace River. Blue-green algae can produce toxins that may pose risks to people, pets, livestock, and wildlife.

The City of Wauchula encourages residents to avoid contact with water where algae is visible and to keep pets away from affected areas. Do not swim, wade, or allow animals to drink water that appears discolored, has surface scum, or contains visible algae.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) monitor and provide updates on algae blooms throughout the state. For the latest information, current advisories, and safety guidance, please visit:

Congratulations to our electric utility line crew for being recognized for their efforts in safety!

FMEA Director of Public Affairs and Strategic Communications Nicole Albers presented the 2025 FMEA Safety Award to city and utility leadership from the City of Wauchula - Government at its City Commission meeting yesterday. The Safety Award recognizes and rewards safe operations at Florida public power utilities based on their total worker hours and the most incident-free records. Congratulations to the City of Wauchula on this achievement!
