☀️ Summer Camp #2 – Complete! ☀️
Hardee County 4-H loaded up a van full of youth and headed to the UF/IFAS Extension Cattle Research Station in Ona to attend the 17th Annual Youth Field Day! This trip was made possible through the generous support of the Hardee County Cloverleaf Foundation, which sponsored registration fees and provided 10 youth with the opportunity to participate in this amazing educational event.
After registering, participants completed a pre-test to measure their knowledge before exploring the Expo and participating in a blackout bingo activity. Youth visited booths throughout the event, engaging in hands-on activities and learning opportunities for a chance to win door prizes.
A favorite stop was the Dakin Dairy booth, where youth had the opportunity to try hand-milking a cow and learn how milk is collected and processed at a dairy farm.
Once the Expo concluded, participants were divided into groups, and Hardee County 4-H proudly represented the White Angus Group!
Throughout the day, youth attended five educational workshops. Two of the most popular sessions were:
🐄 Basics of Beef Cattle Reproduction – Youth learned about calf development during different stages of gestation and had the opportunity to observe and learn about reproductive anatomy firsthand.
🪰 New World Screwworm: What You Need to Know – Participants discovered the impact this pest can have on livestock and wildlife and learned why awareness and prevention are so important.
Even though the temperatures were high, our youth had an incredible day learning new things, making memories with friends, and exploring the world of agriculture.
