PRESS RELEASE: October 10, 2023 - State Representative Martin McLaughlin is calling on his opponent, Maria Peterson, to fire her Campaign Co-Chair, Rep. Nabeela Syed, after Syed signed on to a letter offering a veiled justification for the recent horrific terrorist attack on Israel.
The letter, dated Sunday October 8th, 2023, was published publicly not even twenty-four hours after the terrorist group, Hamas, launched a coordinated, brutal, and barbaric attack on Israeli soil, resulting in the murder of almost two thousand people and counting, with injuries reported to thousands more innocent citizens.
The United States has already confirmed that eleven of our citizens are dead from the attack, with many more still unaccounted for.
“Jews across the world are living in fear after witnessing pro-Hamas rallies around our country. The weak international response from feeble politicians has left them with a sense of betrayal,” said McLaughlin.“
Rep. McLaughlin said, “I am completely appalled to hear Rep. Syed and over a dozen other left-wing Democrat State Representatives and Senators put their name on something which is so out-of-touch.”
The letter states, in part,: We urge the United States and the international community to work toward long-term solutions that end the inequality that is at the root cause of the violence.”
Rep. McLaughlin also stated, “I am calling on my opponent to fire her campaign co-chair immediately for signing on to this letter that draws a moral equivalency and justification for the heinous attack on innocent Israeli men, women, and children who have been murdered and kidnapped on their streets and in their homes by cowardly terrorists.”
“This is unacceptable and those who signed on to that letter lack the necessary discernment to represent their constituents. The leader of their own party, President Joe Biden, is sending our sailors and airmen straight to the Mediterranean Sea in support of Israel,” said McLaughlin.
McLaughlin continued, “No politician or group of politicians should get away with sweeping this attack under the rug like it is somehow a part of a larger conflict. We need to rally around the Israeli people. My opponent can show where she stands by firing a high ranking member of her campaign today.’’ concluded McLaughlin.
