Gas service for Waukee transfers to MidAmerican Energy on October 22, 2025. City staff have been working closely with MidAmerican Energy staff to match up customer accounts and transfer operations. Here are three things to know:

1. Your October bill will be the last that includes gas charges from the City of Waukee.
2. MidAmerican Energy already provides electric service to Waukee homes and businesses, so gas will be added to the same MidAmerican Energy account for your address. Most people won’t have to do anything.
3. Waukee.org/Gas will have answers to questions, contact information for customer service and other information related to the transition.

Just in case you were wondering.

From August 4-15, technicians are conducting a natural gas leak detection survey in parts of Waukee. Utility Safety & Design (USDI) will perform this survey work in the neighborhoods shown in green and red on this map. If you live or work in this area, you may notice technicians on a UTV and walking over the top of buried gas mains and service lines. This annual process is part of the City's maintenance plan and helps ensure the gas system is in accordance with federal, state and customer guidelines.

Does your lawn struggle with drainage issues or patchy grass? Our Stormwater Grant Program can help offset costs for soil quality restoration. This loosens compacted soil and replaces nutrients and organic matter that your yard likely lost during the construction of your new home. The process helps your grass soak up more water, develop deeper roots and prevent runoff. Apply at Waukee.org/StormwaterGrant before you start the work on your lawn.

Starting today, April 21, we're reconstructing the loop road through Centennial Park. The road and the gravel parking lot next to the sand volleyball courts will be closed until June. You can still enjoy the rest of the park, but please stay away from construction areas. We hope to open the new playground this week, so look for that update soon! To access the playground once it's open for play, use the parking lot off University near the covered bridge.

Please pay attention to the new flashing signs on 6th Street and Northview Drive.

Please pay attention to the new flashing signs on 6th Street and Northview Drive.

The flip-down stop signs you normally see on 6th Street near Waukee Elementary will be removed Thursday as new flashing pedestrian crossing signs are activated before afternoon dismissal. The new flashing signs are at 6th Street and Northview Drive.

The flashing signal indicates someone is waiting to cross or is already in the crosswalk. Please come to a full stop until all pedestrians have cleared the crosswalk and the lights have turned off. The flashing beacons will work at all hours, so be sure to stop whenever the lights are activated during or outside school hours. Thank you for following this important safety measure for the students on their way to and from school.
