Happy Pi Day! 6 Purple and 8 Purple students celebrated a day early. The students were challenged with how many numbers of Pi they could remember, they played Tenzi Pi with dice to build the number the fastest, they solved a Pi Pentomino Puzzle, and then they celebrated one of their favorite CIRCLE games...Silent Ball! Who said Math isn't FUN!

The SMS 8th grade jazz band had an awesome performance at the Blue Note Jazz Festival where they placed 2nd out of 11 middle school bands. Andrew F, Aly M, Ruby M, Sutton P, Eli R, Catherine R, Chase W, Bennett W, and Chelsea W were all recognized as outstanding soloists. 🤩

The South Middle School 8th Grade Choir has been selected as the only middle school ensemble from Iowa to perform at the Iowa Choral Showcase this April in Cedar Rapids!

The Showcase highlights exceptional choirs at every level, but includes just one middle school group. This is a great honor, and the first time a Waukee middle school ensemble has earned this opportunity. 🎵

Students in 8th grade social studies participated in silent discussions on the Mexican-American War! 🤩

8th grade math students have been exploring the concept of volume! To start their unit they compared the height of the water to the volume of water in the cylinder.👩‍🔬

Students in 7th grade science completed their sheep eye dissection! They have been learning about the nervous system and are identifying the cornea, iris, pupil, lens, retina, and optic nerve.

The South Middle 7th & 8th grade jazz bands had fantastic performances at the Paul McKee Jazz Festival on Saturday. The students had a great time and learned a lot. 7th grade got 3rd place and 8th grade earned 1st place! 🎉
