We carry a lot of tools on every call, and everyone has a favorite. From the airway kit to the Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC), four of our crew share why each one is important.

Star sprinkles on pancakes, a helicopter landing in the driveway and climbing in fire trucks. It’s safe to say this year’s breakfast was a huge hit.

We couldn’t have done it without support, so shout out to Hy-Vee, The Maschhoffs and 1-800-BOARDUP for their generous donations. Special thanks to MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center for landing the Air Med helicopter and giving tours. It was definitely a crowd favorite! We’d also like to thank the Urbandale Lions Club, JP Party Rentals and Spurgeon Manor for all their help in making the event a success.

Start compressions and count to 100. Repeat until help arrives. If someone goes into cardiac arrest, immediate CPR can triple their chances of survival. That’s why we’re offering an Adult CPR Certification class this summer. In just two hours on Saturday, July 25, you’ll learn how to perform CPR, use an AED and help someone who is choking. It’s hands-on, and you’ll leave with an important skill. Save your spot at Waukee.org/Registration.

Grippy socks aren’t just for kids! They are one way for seniors to prevent falls. As we age, falls come with higher risk of serious injuries, so Elle, our Fire Prevention Specialist, recently chatted with residents at Thomas Place At Waukee about fall prevention, first aid and CPR. In addition to wearing socks with grips on the bottom for traction, she talked about removing rugs to avoid trips and what to do if you come upon someone who has fallen. Remember, if you or someone you know needs help after a fall, call 911 and our crew is ready to respond.
