Thank you to Vibrant Music Hall and the actors who volunteered as injured people during our training last week. Field trainings like this are important for practicing communication and organization, both of which are critical for an effective response to a major incident. It’s always great to train alongside your fellow officers, build teamwork and sharpen the skills that keep our community safe.

Last week, some our staff connected with peers from across Iowa at the 2025 Law Enforcement Administrative Professionals Conference at Iowa State University. They learned from speakers and shared ideas for keeping police departments running smoothly. A standout theme was the importance of mental health programs and services, not just for officers, but also the staff who handle reports, investigations, evidence and other behind the scenes work.

National Teen Driver Safety Week is the perfect time to start a conversation with your child about safe driving habits. Talk to your teen about the importance of staying focused behind the wheel and engage them in finding ways to avoid the temptation of texting, scrolling, video chatting or other distractions. By helping them build these habits now, you can set them up to be safer, more responsible drivers for life.

October 19-25 is National Teen Driver Safety Week! For day 1, this is one way to let people know you need to get off the phone so you can be a focused driver. How would you speak up?
