Dear Community,
We are devastated and heartbroken to report the loss of one of our own, a true social justice warrior and crusader for change, MoDena Stinnette, PhD. Mo, as she was so lovingly referred to, was loud and proud about her recovery from a substance use disorder. She spent many years of her life battling substance use disorder, leading to a lot of time incarcerated and many years missed from her children and large extended family. MoDena was an author, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a counselor, a certified peer recovery support specialist, a professor, a community psychologist, and a personal hero to many, including us. She was obsessed with Batman, which is appropriate to her character: always looking out for the underdog, the disenfranchised, the lost, and the broken, never boastful or proud. She'd show up, roll up her sleeves, and help.
This article from National Louis University speaks to her drive and accomplishments, but this only scratches the surface. https://nl.edu/blog/archives/2021/faces-of-nlu-modena/
MoDena was a dear friend to Dr. Mary, SA Rinehart, and Chelsea and beloved by many of you. We hope you will join us in honoring her life on May 11th in North Chicago.
