The Lake County Workforce Development Board Talent Pipeline Committee recently hosted a Young Professionals Panel focused on “Workforce Pathways in Action: Developing Talent from Entry to Career.”

The panel featured Workforce Development employees who shared their personal career journeys, discussed the challenges they faced along the way, and reflected on the support systems that helped shape their success. The conversation also explored how workforce services can continue evolving to better support young professionals entering today’s workforce.

The thoughtful discussion provided valuable real-world insight that will help guide future workforce priorities and strengthen career pathways throughout Lake County. Following the success of the panel, the Lake County Workforce Development Board will launch a youth-led task force to further engage the voices of youth and young professionals in shaping the future workforce.

Career Exploration Comes to Life at Waukegan Tech & Trade Fair

On April 10, 2026, the Lake County Workforce Development Business Services Team attended the Waukegan Tech and Trade Fair at, where approximately 800 students participated.

The team shared information about the CEJA Program, Summer Youth Program, and additional workforce services designed to support students as they explore career and education opportunities. Students also had the opportunity to use VR headsets to experience different career pathways in an interactive, hands-on way.

These types of events provide valuable opportunities to connect with students and help them begin planning for their future careers.

Inaugural Workforce Impact Awards Recognize Community Changemakers

On April 2, the Lake County Workforce Development Board hosted the inaugural Workforce Impact Awards Breakfast, recognizing individuals and organizations making a meaningful difference across Lake County.

The event celebrated achievements in three key areas:
• Career Compass — honoring efforts that strengthen education, training, and talent development pathways
• Opportunity Gateway — recognizing those expanding employer engagement and access to opportunity
• Impact Beacon — celebrating perseverance, personal achievement, and inspiring success stories

The stories shared throughout the morning reflected the power of collaboration between workforce programs, community partners, employers, and job seekers. Together, these efforts continue to create opportunities, strengthen careers, and support long-term impact throughout Lake County.

The event reinforced an important priority for our region: ensuring that advancements in technology are paired with intentional efforts to expand access, promote equity, and support sustainable economic growth.

We also congratulate the College of Lake County on receiving the Lake County Talent Advantage Award. Strong partnerships between education, workforce development, and industry play an important role in building a skilled, future-ready workforce.

Deloitte Consulting LLP recently presented “AI Readiness and Impact” at the College of Lake County Grayslake campus, bringing together workforce and industry leaders to discuss how AI is influencing hiring, skills, and workplace expectations.
