DID YOU KNOW? Every time you turn on a faucet, take a shower or flush a toilet, there are hard-working individuals behind the scenes who make it all possible.

Because of the important role that water and wastewater workers have in our communities, August 23–29, 2026 has been designated as Water and Wastewater Workers of Iowa Week.

These operators keep clean water flowing and wastewater moving safely by maintaining complex systems that most people rarely think about, and they respond around the clock to leaks, equipment failures, severe weather, and other emergencies—all to ensure that our homes, businesses and schools have the essential services they need.

The City of Waukon recognizes the water and wastewater workers who serve our community. THANK YOU for all that you do!

Help us keep Hideaway Park looking its best! 🌳🛝

This September, we'll once again be staining the wooden playground, and we'll need plenty of volunteers to make it happen.

Whether you can spare a couple of hours or stay all day, your help will make a big difference. As the saying goes, many hands make light work!

We'll begin putting together our volunteer list in September. If you're interested in helping, keep an eye out for more information—we'd love to have you join us!

Solid Waste and Recycling Collection Information.

In late July, the city sent out requests for proposals to multiple companies on the collection of residential solid waste and recyclable services. Interested parties were requested to submit their bids by August 21st. There is a designated committee, comprised of elected officials and city staff, who will open the bids and have discussion prior to bringing that information to the full council at the September 8th city council meeting.

The city is currently in a contract with Republic Services with an expiration date of April 30, 2028. If the city council were to decide to move forward with another company for these services, the city attorney would assist staff with the necessary steps to be taken to terminate the current contract.

If applicable, a new contract could be signed later this year. This is due to the time required for termination notice and to allow the new company to have all the equipment, staffing, and materials needed to start.

We understand residents’ frustrations with these services and appreciate your patience as we try to work diligently on getting this addressed.
