We provide unbiased information about the providers and services in your community, their availability, and costs. Our team of professionals will work with you to find the right fit of options for your individual situation and provide the information you need to make the best decisions. 🌟Resource Spotlight Wednesday 🌟

This week: Senior Nutrition Program

Good nutrition is an important part of staying healthy, active, and independent. The Waupaca County Senior Nutrition Program provides nutrition services to individuals age 60 and older, offering several ways for older adults to enjoy nutritious meals, connect with others, and access additional nutritional resources.

The Senior Nutrition Program offers several options:

Congregate Dining
Congregate Dining is a community-based dining option where participants gather with their peers to enjoy a nutritious meal and socialization. It's a great opportunity to enjoy a meal while connecting with others in the community.

Home-Delivered Meals
Home-Delivered Meals are available for homebound seniors who face challenges getting and preparing food. A hot, freshly packed meal is delivered right to your door by a background-checked volunteer who will greet you with a smile.

Bistro Sixty
Bistro Sixty offers a casual, relaxed neighborhood dining experience where friends can enjoy good food and good company. Senior Nutrition Program participants may request vouchers to be redeemed for a meal at local participating restaurants.

Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program
The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program is a state-funded program for seniors who meet income criteria. Eligible participants receive vouchers that can be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at local farmers markets and farmstands.

🌟 Resource Spotlight Wednesday 🌟

This week: Adult Protective Services (APS)

Adult Protective Services helps protect elder adults and adults-at-risk who may be experiencing, or are at risk of experiencing, abuse, neglect, self-neglect, or financial exploitation.

Who is an Adult-at-Risk?
An adult age 18–59 who has a physical or mental condition that substantially impairs their ability to care for their own needs.

Who is an Elder Adult?
An individual age 60 or older.

Types of Abuse and Neglect:

Physical/Sexual Abuse
The intentional or reckless infliction of physical pain, injury, illness, or impairment of physical condition. This may include, but is not limited to, beating, choking, burning, inappropriate medication, tying or restraining, confinement, or violations of criminal assault laws.

Financial Exploitation
The misuse of an elder adult/adult-at-risk's money or property. This may include deception, diverting income, mismanagement of funds, taking money or possessions against a person's will, failure of a fiscal agent to fulfill their responsibilities, identity theft, or financial transaction card crimes.

Neglect
Occurs when a caregiver fails to provide adequate food, shelter, clothing, medical care, or dental care, resulting in significant danger to the physical or mental health of an elder adult/adult-at-risk in their care.

Self-Neglect
Occurs when an individual's physical or mental health is in significant danger because they are responsible for their own care but fail to obtain adequate food, shelter, clothing, medical care, or dental care.

🚩 Know the Warning Signs 🚩
Abuse, neglect, or exploitation may not always be easy to recognize. Watch for:
• Sudden changes in behavior or finances
• Unexplained injuries
• Dehydration or malnutrition
• Extreme withdrawal, depression, or anxiety
• Lack of basic care or necessities
• Isolation from family, friends, or others
• Unsafe or unsanitary living conditions
• Missing money, belongings, or possessions

You do not need to prove that abuse is occurring to make a report—only a reasonable suspicion.

An APS social worker will assess and investigate the situation and, when appropriate, connect the individual with support, assistance, or other resources to promote their safety and well-being.
