We’re excited to welcome everyone to town for the 64th Annual Waurika Rattlesnake Hunt! It’s always a great time for our community, and we hope everyone enjoys the weekend, the events, and spending time with friends and family.

With that being said just a few friendly reminders to help keep everything safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Drinking is allowed on Main Street, and we want you to have a good time just know your limits and don’t overdo it. Look out for your friends and make good decisions.

(ONLY IF THE ALCOHOL IS FROM THE WAURIKA FIRE DEPARTMENT BEER WAGON.)

Please do not drink and drive. Plan ahead, have a ride, or stay where you are if needed.

If you see law enforcement handling something, please give them space and let them do their job. We know it’s easy to be curious, but stepping in or getting too close can make things more dangerous for everyone.

At the end of the day, we all want the same thing for everyone to have fun and make it home safe.

Have a good time, take care of each other, and enjoy.

We appreciate The Safe Center for all they do for our community!

We appreciate The Safe Center for all they do for our community!

Child abuse prevention is a vital part of Safe Center's mission. Each year, the Department of Human Services (DHS) releases a statewide annual report summary regarding abuse investigations. Our current display reflects the number of substantiated cases in Jefferson County.

According to the DHS report, 31 children were abused in this county last year (2025). The breakdown of these cases is as follows:

- Sexual:2
- Physical: 3
- Neglect: 26
We have a display dedicated to these children at the Jefferson County Courthouse.
Please help us spread awareness for

Deputies made a traffic stop on a vehicle at the intersection of Cherry Street and First Street on April 2, 2026. Lighthorse Tribal Police heard the radio call for assistance and immediately responded without hesitation. During the investigation, deputies, with the assistance of Lighthorse, determined that the driver was intoxicated through standardized field sobriety test.

As they were inventorying the vehicle for tow, they found a pipe with drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. The drug paraphernalia was later identified as methamphetamine.

The suspect requested to speak with his wife. During this time, he slipped out of his handcuffs and attempted to leave the vehicle.

The suspect was immediately placed back into custody, and he was taken to Jefferson County Jail without incident.

We want to recognize and thank the Lighthorse Tribal Police of the Chickasaw Nation for their assistance. We appreciate their work with us to ensure that Ringling and all of Jefferson County remain safe.

On March 29, 2026 at approximately 10:49 PM, deputies on routine patrol observed a white Chevy pickup at Highway 81 & Apache Ave in Terral commit multiple traffic violations, including failure to signal and a defective tag light.

Deputies initiated a traffic stop however, the driver accelerated at a high rate of speed eastbound, attempting to evade. Deputies quickly caught up to the vehicle approximately 7 blocks later.

The individual was safely taken into custody. During the arrest, deputies observed an unmarked pill bottle containing numerous pills in the subject’s possession.

The subject was arrested without further incident.

What starts as a simple traffic violation can quickly turn into something much more serious. Failing to stop, attempting to flee, or making poor decisions during a traffic stop will only add charges and put lives at risk including your own and others on the road.

With prom season happening across our area, we want to wish all of our students a fun, safe, and memorable night.

This is a time to celebrate but it’s also a time to make smart decisions.

Do NOT drink and drive.

If you choose to drink, do not get behind the wheel and do not get in a vehicle with someone who has been drinking.

We would also like to remind everyone

Under Oklahoma Statute Title 37A §6-119, it is unlawful for a person under 21 to be in possession of alcohol (Minor in Possession).

Under Oklahoma Statute Title 37A §6-101, it is unlawful to furnish or provide alcohol to a minor.

These are serious offenses that can result in citations, fines, court appearances, and a criminal record.

Parents we encourage you to have conversations with your kids and help them make safe arrangements for the night.

We want everyone to enjoy prom and make it home safely. One bad decision can change lives forever.

We have ZERO tolerance for drinking and driving. If you make that choice, expect to be stopped, arrested, and held accountable. No exceptions.

Stay safe, make smart choices, and take care of one another.

We want to take a second and clear something up, because we’ve been seeing it happen more often lately.

If you need law enforcement, please do not message us on Facebook or make a post asking for help.

On Monday March 9th, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office along with the Waurika Police Department performed a “emergency protective custody” on two juvenile children located at a residence in Jefferson County. The “emergency protective custody” was made after DHS expressed concern for the children in question. As a result, and following a short investigation, JCSO deputies and Waurika Police Officers took one adult male into custody and placed one juvenile male in protective custody with DHS

The adult male taken into custody is being held on the following charges:

(2) Two Counts, Enabling Child Sexual Abuse

R**e 2nd Degree by means of force or fear

Child Abuse

Obstructing Officer

Currently being held on a $500,000 bond

Following the arrest the Federal Bureau of Investigation applied for and received a search warrant. On today’s date, the search warrant was executed by Agents of the FBI, OSBI, along with JCSO Deputies and Waurika Police Officers. The search resulted in additional evidence relating to the charges in question.

This is an ongoing investigation and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is working closely with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office along with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, charges may be amended. At this time there is no additional information to be given as this is still an ongoing investigation.

If you live on E C Avenue in Waurika today, you might have heard sirens… and a lot of honking! Don’t worry everything was just fine.

Today, Deputy Faucett and 911 Coordinator Gallaher had the opportunity to visit the First Baptist Preschool class and give a presentation about the functions of the Sheriff’s Office and what happens when someone calls 911.

The kids also got to see some of the equipment used by the Sheriff’s Office, and of course, they got to hear the sirens and horns up close which they seemed to really enjoy!

We always enjoy opportunities like this to connect with the community and help teach young students about law enforcement and emergency services.

A big thank you to Mrs. Sharon and her class for inviting us out and allowing us to spend time with them today. We had a great time!

On March 12, 2026 at approximately 12:08 AM, Jefferson County Dispatch received a call reporting a disturbance involving a male and female actively fighting.

Deputies responded to the address to investigate. As deputies arrived, a black Toyota pickup fled from the scene, refusing to stop for law enforcement. Deputies initiated a pursuit that began in Hastings and continued through Jefferson County onto U.S. Highway 70.

The pursuit then entered Cotton County, where speeds exceeded 100 mph. The pursuit continued toward Interstate 44, where assisting agencies coordinated efforts to safely bring the situation to an end.

Cotton County Deputies and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol successfully deployed spike strips, disabling the vehicle. The suspect vehicle eventually came to a stop near I-44 and SW Baseline Road in Comanche County.

The driver then attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly apprehended by law enforcement officers on scene.

We would like to extend our appreciation to all agencies that assisted during this incident. Cooperation between agencies is critical in situations like this and helped bring the pursuit to a safe conclusion.
