Thank you to the Wausau American Legion Post 10 for stopping by yesterday to present our Wausau Police K-9 Unit with a donation.

The majority of our annual K-9 budget is spent on training and medical bills. Donations such as these are crucial to helping support our dog teams by acquiring & replacing equipment as well as funding our eventual costs for replacing retiring dogs.

A Moment of Remembrance

Today, the Kiwanis Club of Wausau pauses to remember and reflect on the 82nd Anniversary of D-Day, bringing our gratitude home to Marathon County as we honor one of our own local heroes.

We remember Private John "Bud" Daum, who gave the ultimate sacrifice on June 6, 1944.

Unit: 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division

His Story: Born and raised right here in Marathon County, Private Daum was an Airborne paratrooper who dropped into the dark, chaotic skies over Normandy in the early morning hours ahead of the beach landings. He was killed in action during the critical airborne operations that secured the inland roads, paving the way for the broader Normandy Campaign.

We honor the immense courage, sacrifice, and resilience of Private Daum and all the Allied forces who faced unimaginable odds to alter the course of history.

May we never forget their sacrifice, and may we always honor their legacy.
