Wausau Firefighter's Honor Guard

Wausau Firefighter's Honor Guard The Wausau FF Honor Guard represents the Wausau FD, families of members active and retired. Requests should be made through Fire Administration.

The Honor Guard will post guard at funerals of active or retired members and can post colors at sporting events, conventions or parades upon request. It all started with a group of loyal firefighters that would go above and beyond the call of duty to represent the Wausau Fire Department. Prior to this, if a need arose for a formal ceremony, a call would go out to those who had dress uniforms to as

sist in the event. Although the newly-formed Honor Guard was dedicated, the first year was not easy. Most of the members had little to no formal training in drill and ceremony. Fourteen members currently volunteer their time to practice marching drills and maneuvers that were taught initially by instructors of the Wisconsin State Honor Guard Team in a two-day academy. The Honor Guard represents the Wausau Fire Department at funerals, memorial services and any other functions authorized/requested by the Chief of the department or designee. Our goal is to represent all members of the Fire Department in the highest degree of professionalism, dedication, loyalty, honor, and dignity. We strive to honor firefighters in life, as well as death, and to exhibit the best possible image to the entire community. In addition to funerals and memorial services, the honor guard may be called upon to post colors, march in parades, social functions, fire victims' funerals, assist families during a time of need and stand guard at funeral homes. The Wausau Fire Department Honor Guard is funded primarily through donations. All honor guard members volunteer their time to attend all functions and meetings. "ETERNAL BROTHERS"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
June 28, 2021

This morning the City of Wausau Police and Fire Commission (PFC) approved the selection of Jeremy Kopp for the position of Deputy Chief of the City of Wausau Fire Department. Kopp has been with the department since 2004, where he has escalated in rank to Battalion Chief since 2014.

Deputy Chief Kopp has many accomplishments, including; a B.S. in Fire and Emergency Management from Purdue Global University and an A.S. in Fire Science from Madison Area Technical College. In addition, he is a board member of the Wausau Firefighters Community Assistance Foundation, a leader in the Wausau Fire Department Explorers group, serves on the Firefighters Honor Guard, and volunteers time at the Salvation Army. Kopp also serves as a Lead Instructor for North Central Technical College, teaching Fire, EMS, and Rescue courses.

"Deputy Chief Kopp is a great asset to this community," Fire Chief Robert Barteck said following this morning's PFC announcement. "His hard work, education, and passionate desire to serve others make him the perfect choice for the job. Mayor Katie Rosenberg echoed Barteck's remarks and added, "we have a great fire department leadership team, and I am excited about the Fire Department's future with Chief Barteck and Deputy Chief Kopp in these key leadership roles."

The Deputy Chief position recently became vacant when Robert Barteck was appointed to Fire Chief on June 7, following Fire Chief Tracey Kujawa's retirement in April. Kopp will begin working in his new role soon.
