Structure Fire on Windsong Lane

Last night at approximately 7:30 PM, Washington County Fire Departments were dispatched to a reported structure fire on Windsong Lane.

Upon arrival, crews encountered a well-progressed attic fire. Firefighters immediately deployed attack lines from Hinson Crossroads Engine 80 and WCFD Engine 1 and began aggressive suppression efforts.

Crews were able to quickly stop the spread of the fire within the attic space and prevent further extension throughout the home. While the fire was successfully contained, the residence sustained extensive water damage as a result of suppression operations.

Firefighters were also able to safely rescue three cats from the home. We are proud to report that all three are doing well.

Washington County Fire would like to thank Hinson Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department, Vernon Volunteer Fire Department,Ebro Volunteer Fire Department, and Bonifay Fire Department for their assistance and teamwork during this incident.

As always, we are grateful for the dedication of our firefighters and partnering agencies who work together to protect our community.

This past Saturday, WCFD Station 90 had the pleasure of welcoming a group of special friends for a station tour!

During their visit, our newest friends learned about fire safety, the importance of having a home fire escape plan, and the equipment firefighters use during emergency responses. They even got some hands-on experience by spraying water from one of our brush trucks.

We always enjoy opportunities to connect with the children and families in our community and neighboring communities. Teaching fire safety at a young age helps create safer homes and better prepared families.

Stay safe, and remember: Fire prevention starts at home!

This past Saturday, your Washington County firefighters trained on confined space scenarios. Crews worked on following hose lines, calling maydays, breaching through walls, navigating confined spaces, and handling entrapment situations.

Training for these types of scenarios is critical. Firefighters must be prepared to handle challenging situations while remaining calm, focused, and working together to ensure everyone goes home safely.

Washington County Firefighters came together today for specialized training with Walton County Air Rescue to review landing zones and the hazards associated with helicopter operations.

Topics covered included landing zone preparation, proper size-up procedures, what to expect in the event of an aircraft emergency, and the overall function and coordination of air rescue operations.

This training is extremely important due to the number of landing zones we establish throughout Washington County. Staying prepared and continuing to train alongside our partnering agencies helps ensure we can provide the safest and most effective response possible for our community.
