🚨 Wauseon Pool Closed Today 🚨

Due to the poor air quality caused by wildfire smoke, the Wauseon Pool will remain closed today, Friday, July 17th.

The health and safety of our patrons and staff is always our top priority. Current air quality conditions are not suitable for outdoor recreational activities, so we have made the decision to remain closed for the day.

We appreciate your understanding and patience. We will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates regarding tomorrow’s operations as more information becomes available.

🚨 Wauseon City Pool Update 🚨

Due to poor air quality caused by wildfire smoke, the Wauseon City Pool will close at 5:00 PM today to help protect the health and safety of our patrons and staff.

Adult Lap Swim is also canceled for this evening.

🥵 Extreme Heat Is Here!

With temperatures and heat indices climbing this week, we’re taking extra steps to keep everyone safe.

☀️ Sunscreen Tips

* Apply sunscreen 15–30 minutes before swimming so it has time to absorb.
* Reapply every 2 hours, or after heavy sweating.
* If you reapply at the pool, wait about 15 minutes before getting back in the water.
* Staying protected from the sun helps prevent painful sunburns and heat-related illnesses.

💧 Stay Hydrated

* Drink plenty of water throughout the day—even if you don’t feel thirsty.
* Take breaks in the shade whenever possible.

🏊 Lifeguard Breaks
For the safety of both our staff and our guests, we may schedule additional lifeguard rotation breaks during periods of extreme heat. Lifeguards work in direct sunlight while remaining constantly focused, and short cooling breaks help them stay alert and ready to respond in an emergency.

🌞 Sunscreen Reminder

Help protect your skin and keep our pool water clean! Apply sunscreen at least 15 minutes before entering the pool (or before leaving home if possible). If you need to reapply at the pool, wait 15 minutes before getting back in the water. This helps reduce sunscreen washing into the pool, keeping the water clearer for lifeguards and helping maintain proper water quality.

⚕️ Health Department Update

The Fulton County Health Department has reported cases of cyclosporiasis in Fulton County.

To help protect yourself and others:

* 🧼 Wash your hands frequently, especially before eating and after handling fresh fruits and vegetables.
* 🥗 Rinse fresh fruits and vegetables thoroughly before eating.
* 🚫 Please do not swim if you have diarrhea. Wait at least two weeks after symptoms have completely resolved before returning to the pool.

EDIT: WE ARE BACK IN THE WATER!

⚡ Lightning Delay at the Wauseon Pool ⚡

The safety of our guests and staff is always our top priority. Due to lightning in the area, the pool is currently on a lightning delay.

Our policy is to clear the pool whenever lightning is detected within 5 miles of the facility. We will not reopen until there have been no lightning strikes within 10 miles of our facility.

A few reminders about lightning safety:

* ⚡ If you can hear thunder, you’re close enough to be struck by lightning.
* 🏊 Water conducts electricity, making swimming during a thunderstorm extremely dangerous.
* 🌳 Trees, umbrellas, and open shelters do not provide protection from lightning.
* 🏢 The safest place to wait is inside a substantial building or a fully enclosed vehicle.

We know waiting isn’t anyone’s favorite part of a pool day, but these procedures are in place to keep everyone safe. We appreciate your patience and will reopen as soon as conditions meet our safety guidelines.

👶 Swim Diaper Policy

For the health and safety of all guests:

* Children who are not fully toilet trained are required to wear a properly fitting swim diaper.
* A snug-fitting swimsuit or reusable swim diaper cover over the swim diaper is strongly recommended to help reduce leaks.
* Regular diapers are not permitted in the pool. They absorb water quickly and can break apart.
* Please check and change swim diapers frequently in the designated restroom or changing area—not on the pool deck.

☀️ Proper Sunscreen Use Helps Keep Our Pool Safe

For the best sun protection and to help maintain clear, clean pool water, please follow these sunscreen guidelines:

* Apply sunscreen at least 15 minutes before entering the pool to allow it to absorb into your skin.
* If possible, apply sunscreen before traveling to the pool.
* When reapplying sunscreen at the pool, wait at least 15 minutes before getting back into the water.

Applying excessive sunscreen immediately before swimming can wash oils and lotions into the pool. This can:

* Reduce water clarity, making it more difficult for lifeguards to see the bottom of the pool.
* Increase the workload on the filtration system.
* Contribute to increased chlorine demand and other water chemistry challenges.
