The Wauseon Fire Department spent time training with our ladder truck — getting some important hands-on time with both training and inspection of the ladder to make sure everything is operating safely and ready to go when we need it.

Going up in the air isn’t just about the view… although we’ll admit, it is pretty amazing how far you can see from up there and how beautiful everything looks when you’re looking out over the community. It’s one of those moments where you can’t help but take it in for a second before getting back to work.

But in all seriousness, this kind of training and inspection is critical. It helps ensure the ladder functions properly, that every part is working as it should, and that our firefighters stay comfortable and confident operating at height. When emergencies happen, there’s no time to wonder if equipment is ready — we have to know it is.

A little hard work can go a long way—and this morning, our Wauseon FFA members proved just that

As part of the Day of Service, students spent time planting flowers and brightening up the landscaping around the Fire Department, Police Department, and Municipal Building. Their efforts added a fresh, welcoming touch.

We’re proud of these students for taking the initiative to give back and show appreciation for those who serve Wauseon every day. Be sure to check out the beautiful results next time you’re in the area!

We can’t thank Wauseon Schools enough for allowing us the opportunity to work with their freshmen and provide hands-on CPR training.

Each year, they welcome us in and make it possible to teach these life-saving skills while investing in students in such a meaningful way.

The past three days at the OFA Fire Behavior Lecture and hands-on lab were more than just training—they were a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. Diving into fire behavior, reading smoke, understanding flow paths, and seeing fire dynamics play out in real time isn’t just knowledge—it’s something that directly impacts how we go home at the end of a call.

What stood out most wasn’t just the information, but the dedication in the room. Firefighters from different departments, different backgrounds, all coming together with the same goal: to get better, to be safer, and to serve our communities at a higher level.

A sincere thank you to the departments that committed their time and effort to be there—Archbold German Township Fire Department, Fairfield Township Fire Department, Morenci Fire Department, and City of Napoleon Fire and Rescue. The conversations, the questions, and the shared experiences made this training what it was.

Grateful for the opportunity to learn alongside all of you. This is how we move the fire service forward—together.

Wauseon Fire Department and our partner departments continue training today at the old ODOT location on Shoop Ave as part of our Fire Behavior training with the Ohio Fire Academy.

Why is this training so important?

Understanding fire behavior is critical to firefighter safety and effective emergency response. Fire can change rapidly based on factors like ventilation, fuel, and building layout. Through this hands-on training, our crews are learning how fires grow, move, and react in real time.

The Fire Behavior Lab allows us to safely observe dangerous conditions such as flashover and rapid fire development—situations that can be life-threatening if not properly recognized.

By training in a controlled environment, we are better prepared to:
🔥 Recognize warning signs earlier
🔥 Make safer, faster decisions on scene
🔥 Protect lives—both yours and ours

The Wauseon Fire Department, along with several surrounding departments, will be conducting training exercises at the old ODOT location on Shoop Ave beginning Saturday April 18, 2026 and continuing through Monday April 20, 2026.

This training is being completed in partnership with the Ohio Fire Academy and will focus on Fire Behavior, including the use of a Fire Behavior Lab. You may see visible smoke and fire conditions as part of this hands-on training.
