5th and 6th grade Library classes are looking a little bit different this year. During our time together, before book checkout, we are focusing on commonly unknown vocabulary.

Each week, we read a short story that uses pun-like adventures to explain the new vocabulary word. Then we journal about the word, definition, story, and create a visual reminder of the word. We will work our way through the alphabet focusing on a new word each week.

Week 1 - Abasement: the act of lowering someone's rank
Our story focused on Mr. Bellows who was not very good
at his job, so he had to move his office from the 40th
floor, to the 20th, to the 10th, to "a basement" office

Students were able to make the connection between abasement and the character's movement down to "a basement" office.

We are excited to learn new words through fun stories!
