As of today, I have now attending at least one meeting of every committee I was assigned to back in April.
My committee assignments are:
Board of Adjustments
Cap Services
Library Services
Hancock Library
Public Safety
Economic Development
At most of the meetings, I was getting acquainted with my fellow committee members and just getting the basics down. However, there were two items that I thought were important to share.
First, at our May Board of Adjustments meeting I was nominated and accepted the role of Chairperson for this committee. I have served on this committee for several years now, and I am very familiar with the processes and goals of this committee. I truly appreciate the fact that my fellow committee members trusted me with the role as Chairperson.
Second, At the Library Services Committee meeting we were discussing the Waushara County Library's budget. As part of this discussion, I learned of Wisconsin Act 420 reimbursementshttps://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/2005/related/lcactmemo/act420.pdf . What I learned is that when residents from one county use another county's library services, the county that the library user is from has to reimburse the other county for this use. For Waushara County this means we pay out close to $90K for those services and we receive back around $30K. That is a $60K hole in our County's library budget due to library users going to out of county libraries. The best way to fix this is to get the message out to "Read Local". Our local libraries are essential to our communities and our libraries have access to most resources the big city libraries have. Additionally, if we want to keep our libraries viable, well staffed, and in good repair, we need to lessen this $60K deficit in our county library budget.
That is all for month one as your County Board
Supervisor.
Take Care and have a safe and fun filled Memorial Day Weekend, while not forgetting the reason for Holiday.
