🎉Way to go, Benny! 🎉
Benny finished the 1001 Books Before Kindergarten challenge & we're so proud! Benny is all ready to start Kindergarten and was super excited to check out his 1001st book, "SPACE." When he's not reading (with his mom OR by himself) in his bunk bed at the lake house, he loves to ride his bike and waterski! Benny said when he grows up, he's thinking he'd like to be a police officer. 🫡 Help spread some library ❤️ and cheer on another rockin' reader!

Summer might be wrapping up, but here's a summer read from one of our circulation attendants just to give you the summer feels a little longer.

When former literature professor Phoebe Stone arrives at a Rhode Island hotel facing a mental health breakdown she finds herself befriending the bride of an over-the-top wedding.

Want to hold onto summer a little longer? Grab this title via CountyCat!

🎉Way to go, Leanna! 🎉
Leanna finished the 1001 Books Before Kindergarten challenge & we're so proud! Leanna's favorite book of all time is "Pepita Meets Bebita" — that's her 1001st book!! When she's not snuggled up with dad reading on the living room couch, Leanna likes to play card games like Go Fish. She also told us she likes to sleep -- who doesn't! -- and is excited because she has TWO wiggly teeth that are almost ready to go beneath her pillow! Help spread some library ❤️ and cheer on another rockin' reader!

Dolly, we will always love you for this!

ALA is heartbroken at the passing of country music legend, cultural icon, and champion of literacy Dolly Parton.

Dolly’s award-winning Imagination Library initiative, inspired by her father’s inability to read or write, has put hundreds of millions of free books into the hands of children across America and was considered by her to be one of her greatest achievements.

“We’re giving books to kids who wouldn’t have a chance to get them otherwise,” she told American Libraries in a 2018 interview. “A lot of people think this is just for poor children—it’s for all children. It’s important to get books into the hands of any child that we can.”

ALA was proud to confer Dolly with an honorary lifetime membership, the Association’s highest honor, in 2023 for her lasting impact on librarianship, libraries, and the communities they serve.

Dolly was also part of ALA’s Celebrity READ campaign, in which she holds a copy of 'The Little Engine That Could.'

“I’ve always related to that book because I’m the little engine that did!” she said.

Thank you, Dolly. ❤️

🎉Way to go, Aubrey! 🎉
Aubrey finished the 1001 Books Before Kindergarten challenge & we're so proud! Aubrey was super excited to check out her 1001st book, "Islandborn." Her favorite book of all time is "Aubrey on the North Pole Express" — a special book created for her by her beloved Auntie Lindsay! When she's not snuggled up in bed reading with her sister Autumn, Aubrey likes to play castles. We love a kid with a big imagination! Help spread some library ❤️ and cheer on another rockin' reader!

This week's comes from one the smallest members of the library world! One of our shelver's grandchildren loves the Children's Library! This book, "In My Heart: A Book of Feelings" by Jo Witek, illustrated by Christine Roussey, is one of her favorites. Did you know that we have an entire section of SEL=Social Emotional Learning books that cover things like understanding feelings and making good choices. Come check them out, especially as we gear up for back to school.

Grab "In My Heart" or other social-emotional learning books in our Children's Library.

We've had so much fun with our Tween/Teen Summer Fun program this year. We kicked it off with an after-hours Nerf War thanks to Milwaukee Area Nerf Outings (and we're still finding foam darts in the stacks!), taste-tested a BUNCH of Pop-Tarts, blended up recycled paper to make pulp and made our own paper, had a totally 80s murder mystery party complete with leotards and sideways ponytails, painted characters, made our own stamps out of foam at our tote bag printing party, had a very intense session of Cupcake Wars, had teams race to escape the library during an escape room, and had the here for a bucket drumming session.

Whew, it's been busy, but we're excited to say we have one more session left next Thursday where tweens and teens get the chance to write and illustrate their own graphic novels.

This week's is a bit out of the ordinary, since it turned into a instead featuring adult librarian Katie.

"As the librarian in charge of the , I'm always on the hunt for fun things to add to the collection. (from ) was a suggestion from one of our patrons, and I can definitely see why! Roll the die to find the brick you use, stack the colored brick, and hope it doesn't rock and tumble. Curating the Library of Things collection is such a fun part of my job because I get to buy, process, and play with fun games, tools, and crafty items (sometimes behind the reference desk)."
