𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝟲𝟱 𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟭, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲?

If so, you may qualify for Iowa’s 65+ Homestead Property Tax Exemption through your County Assessor’s Office.

Eligible homeowners can receive a $6,500 reduction in taxable property value on their primary residence.

Here is what to know:

• You must be 65 or older on or before January 1 of the assessment year
• You must own and occupy the home as your primary residence
• Apply by July 1 of the year following your 65th birthday
• Once approved, you generally do not need to apply again unless you move

Important timing note:

If you apply by July 1, 2026, and qualify, the exemption will first appear on the property tax statement payable in September 2027 and March 2028.
