Ending hunger is within reach.

Forward-thinking solutions -- like the biofortified Quality Protein Maize and innovative double-row planting technique promoted by Self-Help International's agricultural extensionists in Nicaragua -- can help ensure that everyone has access to sufficient, diverse, safe, and nutritious foods, while safeguarding the planet for future generations.

Women are responsible for half of the world’s food production, but structural barriers including less access to land, credit, agricultural inputs, and markets mean that women living in rural areas suffer disproportionately from multi-dimensional poverty.

To help women farmers -- like María a mother of five who lives in San Carlos, Nicaragua -- Self-Help International extension staff provide training and support, as well as biofortified seeds, increase their harvests and food security for their whole families.

On the International Day of Rural Women, we celebrate women's knowledge and leadership in building a more resilient future.

When girls are safe, educated and empowered, they don’t just transform their own lives, they help build healthier families, stronger communities and more peaceful, prosperous societies.

Yet, around the world, almost 4 in 10 adolescent girls and young women do not finish upper secondary school.

This International Day of the Girl Child, we highlight the Self-Help International Teen Girls Club. Because of the Teen Girls Club, teens like Elizabeth, from Bedabour in Ghana's Ashanti Region, are empowered to stay in school and complete their education.
