📣 Elementary Families—A Few Important Reminders for This Week!

We’re excited to welcome our K–4 families for Laker Launch/Welcome Days tomorrow and Wednesday! We can’t wait to meet you, learn more about your child, and kick off a great 2026–27 school year together. 💙💛

Here’s the important schedule reminder:

📚 Tuesday, Sept. 1 & Wednesday, Sept. 2
➡️ Grades 5–9 (Sept 1), and Grades 5-12 (Sept 2) ARE in school!
➡️ K–4 students attend only for their scheduled Laker Launch/Welcome Day appointment.

🎉 Thursday, Sept. 3
➡️ FIRST FULL DAY OF SCHOOL for K–4!
➡️ This is the first day of the 2026–27 school year for our elementary students.

A few other things to look for during Welcome Days:

📖 BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS!
We have lots of great books that no longer fit our classrooms due to building/grade consolidation, our new reading curriculum, and library updates. Families are welcome to “shop” the books in the lunchroom/commons area of each building. Take one, take 20! A free-will donation is appreciated but not required. We simply want to keep sharing these resources with our families.

👕 Laker PTA Apparel Sale
The PTA Laker apparel sale is underway, with an order deadline of September 11. Get your Laker gear before Homecoming in October while supporting the PTA and the students and classrooms of HLWW!

Day 2 for teachers! Yesterday we gathered as a full district staff to kick off the 2026-27 school year and to prep for our students (YOU!) who return next week. Today our elementary team is back and hard at it, learning about our new reading curriculum. Never stop learning! 📚🤩

It’s August, the idea of getting back to a school routine is starting to get real, and your child might be asking—“who’s my teacher?”🤔
Good news! The wait is ALMOST over.🙌🏼
Humphrey and Winsted’s teacher/classroom assignment letters will be dropped in the mail early next week. Please watch your mailboxes (both electronic and traditional USPS). 📬

HLWW elementary students and families, we will see you soon for Welcome Days on Sept 1-2. Our first day of school is Sept 3! 🍎📚

💥PSA for all soon-to-be kindergarten families and a great idea for August...

🍎Getting your Kindergartner prepared for School Lunch:🍎
🔹Practice eating “school lunch” with your child.
🔹Make sure they can open everything you send with them.
🔹Use Bento-style boxes or tupperware, a small thermos (with a pressure release valve to help with backpack and lunch spills), and consider individually packaged items. Milk or water is highly suggested for beverages—no sodas or juices.
🔹Talk with your child about not eating off of the table in the lunchroom. (Helpful for a variety of reasons beyond good manners!)
🔹Set a timer for about 15 minutes and talk about how they may not finish eating and that’s ok. (This is HARD for some little ones.) Our scheduled lunchtime is longer than 15 minutes, but they are also social during this time.😉
🔹Practice packing everything back up and talk about what is trash and what should come back home in their lunch box.
**We strongly suggest everything going back home for a while. (We’ve seen many students throw out at least half of everything whether it’s a home or school provided lunch.) You need to know what they will or won’t eat in school.

Kindergarten lunch is a big adjustment and your child’s teacher (and other school staff) will be super appreciative if you have prepared them for the experience! 🍽️
