As tonight's weather approaches, please make sure you have tuned into your favorite weather channel, keep alerts turned on through your phone, and be weather aware. I am unsure of all the shelters open, but the safe room in New Johnsonville will be open and the basement at the waverly police station should be open as well.

Yesterday, crews from Humphreys County Fire, New Johnsonville Fire Department, and TN Wildland Fire worked diligently to extinguish multiple brush fires, including a several hour long fire that spread rapidly due to windy conditions. We kindly request that the community refrain from burning any materials at this time, as the current wind conditions pose a significant risk of wildfires. It is essential to note that burn permits are mandatory between October 15th and May 15th. These permits are available free of charge and can be obtained through the wildland fire page tagged above. The burn permit process serves as a vital safeguard, providing critical information on active burn bans and safe burning conditions. We would also like to extend our gratitude to Matt Dill with NJFD Drone division for deploying a drone that significantly aided in locating areas of concern and hotspots for the ground crews.

We appreciate the community's trust in allowing us to serve. - Chief Austin Stewart

An update on the state grant money...
Today we were notified of intent of award of $34,000 from the Volunteer Firefighter Equipment and Training Grant Program, this grant was awarded for handheld radios, this comes as a huge purchase for us as alot of our radios were ruined in the flood or they are majorly outdated. This money will help us tremendously buying these radios. Thank you to the community for supporting us so we can be here to serve YOU.

The Humphreys County Fire Department is pleased to announce that we have been awarded $34,000 from the State of Tennessee from the Volunteer Firefighter Equipment and Training Grant Program. As to what we are awarded the money for has yet to be announced and will be announced in February. This award might not seem like a lot to most but to myself and the department, this money can help buy what the state seemed fit to buy, I put in for several things and now is just a waiting game, but we are beyond happy to receive this for the 3rd year in a row. Once I have more info I will release what we will be our having. Thank you to the citizens of Humphreys County for allowing us to serve you!

Good morning, approaching this weekends weather events we want everyone to be safe and to please stay indoors, we have no idea what this weather is bringing us, other than its projected to bring more ice than needed. Please be as prepared as you can be and stay off the roads, keep in mind that all emergency personnel will be available but it will take time to get to you or your loved ones. Don't use generators inside and please, try to start warm in safe manners. We hope that this does not affect us as bad as they say, but its very uncertain. Please see picture below for generator safety. Charge everything tonight before this storm gets here, block off doors and find one room in your house that generally stays warmer than others. Be safe everyone and thank you for allowing us to serve you!

First and foremost, I would like to say, please keep all the families, friends, and staff at AES our deepest condolences. Please also keep all of them and all first responders in your prayers as our county has faced another tragedy. One thing I have learned in the years of serving our precious community is that we will recover from this, we will stand strong together, and we will come together for our community. Please continue to be there for each other and have compassion for the ones hurting.

The second thing I would like to say is thank you to all agencies that are working hard to help us in all ways, pulling shifts, giving time away from their families, and being such a huge help to ensure that processes go as smooth as possible, also thank you to agenices that have reached out to offer help and offer resources. From Humphreys County Fire Department and myself, thank you so much. Words cannot express how grateful we are.
