IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR THOSE BRINGING BIRDS OF PREY TO THE CENTER: Due to detection of screwworms the Texas Animal Health Commission has declared 22 quarantine zones as of this writing, in the counties of Bandera, Brewster, Coke, Crockett, Edwards, Gillespie, Jim Hogg, Kerr, Kimble, La Salle, Medina, Pecos, Schleicher, Starr, Sutton, Terrell, Tom Green, Uvalde, Val Verde, Webb, Zapata, and Zavala. Additional counties are likely to be added on a near-daily basis - the map linked below is kept updated by the Commission as quarantine zones are added or removed.
If the bird you are transporting comes from one of these counties, or if your travel route will cross the boundary of ANY of these counties, THE BIRD MUST BE INSPECTED FOR SCREWWORM before crossing county lines in or out. Our chief veterinarian is certified to perform the inspections, but you must call us ahead of time at (210) 499-4080 to make arrangements for her to meet you for inspection before crossing any of these county lines.
According to the Executive Director Order issued on June 3, 2026, all warm-blooded animals in this zone may not move out of the zone without prior authorization from the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC).
