County Clerk Office Update

We're getting ready to launch new recording and vital records systems, and our staff will be participating in training to prepare for the transition.

Because of this training, please note the following temporary closures:
Tuesday, June 9, 2026 – Vitals Department closed all day
Wednesday, June 10, 2026 – Recording Department closed all day
Thursday, June 11, 2026 – Vitals and Recording Departments closed from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. These upgrades will help us serve the citizens of Ellis County more efficiently and provide an even better experience moving forward.

NEW: DPS has made changes to the state’s commercial driver license (CDL) testing process. Effective today, all Texas CDL knowledge exams will be administered in English only.

This change aligns Texas’ testing procedures with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) English language proficiency requirements and will help ensure that all newly licensed commercial drivers have the communication skills necessary to operate these vehicles safely on Texas roads.

🇺🇸 Ellis County Offices Closed for Memorial Day 🇺🇸

All Ellis County offices will be closed on Monday, May 25th in observance of Texas Independence Day.

Offices will reopen at 8:00am on Tuesday, May 26th for normal business hours.
