County Clerk Office Update

We're getting ready to launch new recording and vital records systems, and our staff will be participating in training to prepare for the transition.

Because of this training, please note the following temporary closures:
Tuesday, June 9, 2026 – Vitals Department closed all day
Wednesday, June 10, 2026 – Recording Department closed all day
Thursday, June 11, 2026 – Vitals and Recording Departments closed from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. These upgrades will help us serve the citizens of Ellis County more efficiently and provide an even better experience moving forward.

On May 21, Ellis County proudly celebrated the official signing of a Sister Region Memorandum with the Pardubice Region of the Czech Republic, marking a historic milestone in our county’s rich Czech heritage and strengthening the cultural, educational, and economic ties between our communities. Earlier this year, the Ellis County Commissioners Court approved the agreement, and the signing was honored by the presence of Governor Martin Netolický and a distinguished Czech delegation.

The celebration continued on Saturday, May 23, with a public signing ceremony during the opening ceremonies of the 60th Annual National Polka Festival, giving attendees the opportunity to witness this significant partnership and celebrate the enduring Czech traditions that have shaped Ellis County for generations. Through decades of cultural exchanges, musical collaborations, exhibits, and visits from Czech leaders, a strong bond has developed between Ellis County and the Pardubice Region.

As the first county-level Sister County relationship in Texas, this historic partnership formalizes a longstanding friendship and creates new opportunities for cultural cooperation and mutual understanding. We extend our sincere appreciation to Governor Netolický, the Czech delegation, National Polka Festival leadership, Honorary Consul Brian Vanicek, and all those whose dedication helped make this milestone possible.

"Landmark Partnership with Ellis County Would Deliver a Permanent, Modern Facility Following Last Year's Regional SPCA Closure"

Ellis County, Texas — When the SPCA of Texas closed its Ellis County regional care center on April 15, 2025, local rescue volunteers stepped up. They worked nights and weekends, opened their homes, and stretched every resource they had to keep animals safe. A year later, their neighbor, Compass Datacenters, is stepping up with them.

Ellis County and Compass Datacenters today announced a proposed $15 million grant agreement to fund the construction of a new, state-of-the-art municipal animal shelter. If approved by the Ellis County Commissioners Court, the project would provide a permanent, community-owned solution designed to serve Ellis County residents and animals for decades to come. Compass's $15 million commitment ensures this facility will be built with the long-term well-being of both animals and residents at its heart.

*If approved, receipt of the grant is not contingent upon any requirements or actions by Ellis County; the only condition is that the funds be used for the development of an animal shelter. The grant agreement is currently under review by a third-party legal team and will be considered and voted on by the Ellis County Commissioners Court.

Ellis County Judge John Wray is appointing Matthew Zajic to fill the unexpired term for Ellis County Commissioner Precinct 2, effective today, May 27, 2026.

Zajic will officially be sworn into office today at 2:00 p.m. in the Commissioners Court Room at the Historic Ellis County Courthouse in Waxahachie.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
