Carhartt Mansion Ruins

Just 15 mintues from Waxhaw, you can find the ruins of the Hamilton Carhartt mansion high on a hill overlooking the Catawba River.
Hamilton Carhartt (the famous Carhartt clothing brand) was a very successful businessman.

The house, once offered to Woodrow Wilson as a summer vacation, was a a happy home place for Hamilton and his wife. The home was said to be modeled after a Swiss Chalet with elaborate gardens.

Tragically, within years of being built, he and his wife were killed in an automobile accident. The house was left to be reclaimed by nature on the banks of the Catawba.
