Emory University's Public Health and General Preventive Medicine (PHGPM) Residency and Fellowship Program recently had residents complete rotations with the Southeast Health District (SEHD).

PHGPM is a unique residency track that focuses on population and public health, setting it apart from other medical specialties. Training emphasizes preventive medicine, primary care, and conditions of public health significance.

During their time, resident physicians gained hands-on experience in local, state, and federal governmental public health settings across multiple programs, including:

• Environmental health
• Health promotion and disease prevention in communities
• Maternal and child health
• Community medical services
• Wellness clinics
• Infectious disease surveillance and reporting
• Emergency preparedness and services

Partnerships and experiences like these are how we build a healthcare workforce ready to meet Georgia's healthcare needs.

While the summer season hasn't officially begun, the heat is certainly already here! We know many days of high temperatures are ahead over the next few months, including this coming weekend.

Afternoon heat index values of 100-105° are possible beginning this Friday and going through Sunday, and we want to share a few reminders to keep you, your family, and those around you safe during times of higher temperatures and heat index values!

Here are 4 tips to help you keep your cool:
🥤💧Drink plenty of water.
🚴Limit outdoor activity during the daytime.
👕Wear loose, light-colored clothing.
🚗Never leave children or pets in the car for any length of time!

For additional tips on ways to beat the heat, view the image below and also visit https://www.weather.gov/safety/heat.
