We would like to congratulate Advanced EMT Randy Cannon, Jr. on being named the Waycross Exchange Club Medic of the Year.

Randy is an outstanding Advanced EMT who consistently demonstrates professionalism, clinical excellence, and dedication to the citizens of Waycross and Ware County. He is currently furthering his education and training to become a Paramedic, reflecting his continued commitment to professional growth and advanced patient care.

Congratulations to our Interim Chief, Perry Blackburn, Paramedic, on 48 years of dedicated service to our community.

Chief Blackburn began his career in Emergency Medical Services in 1978 as a Georgia Basic EMT. He earned his Georgia Cardiac Technician license in 1981 and obtained his Georgia Paramedic license in 1985.

Throughout his distinguished career, he has served in numerous leadership roles, including:
Shift Captain
Captain / Training Officer
Operations Coordinator
Deputy Chief
And most recently, Interim Chief.

His commitment to professional excellence, leadership, and service to the citizens of our community reflects nearly five decades of dedication to Emergency MedicalServices.

James Lamie Promoted to Operations Chief of Ware County EMS

Ware County EMS is proud to announce the promotion of James Lamie to the position of Operations Chief. With over 10 years of dedicated service in emergency medical services, James has served Ware County and its surrounding areas with professionalism, leadership, and a deep commitment to community care.

A native and current resident of Homerville, Georgia, James brings both regional knowledge and hands-on experience to this leadership role. His promotion reflects not only his years of service, but also his strong work ethic and dedication to advancing EMS operations for the benefit of the community.

Outside of his professional life, James is supported by his wife, Paige Lamie, and their two children, Maggie and Colin.

With an impressive 47 years of service in Emergency Medical Services, Deputy Chief Perry Blackburn brings unparalleled experience, steady leadership, and a lifelong dedication to the citizens of Waycross and Ware County. A proud graduate of Waycross High School. Perry embarked on his EMS journey in 1978. He rose through the ranks with skill and grace becoming a Cardiac Technician in 1982 and achieving paramedic certification in 1985.

Throughout his career, Perry has held key leadership roles, including Captain, Training Officer, and EMS Coordinator. In each position, he has been recognized for his calm command during crisis, his unwavering professionalism, and his deep commitment to community care.

Now stepping into the role of Deputy Chief, he brings a wealth of administrative expertise and a passion for mentoring the next generation of EMS professionals.
Beyond his work in Ware County, Perry continues to serve the broader EMS community as a representative on Region 9 of the Georgia Emergency Medical Services Association EMS Council. His voice, shaped by decades of frontline and leadership experience, helps guide the future of emergency medical response across the state.
