The Wayland Free Library will be closed today, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth National Independence Day. June 19 has been a holiday since as early as 1866 and celebrates the end of slavery though the fight for equality still continues today.

Feel free to come in to the library to seek out knowledge beyond the news, read from different perspectives and be open to the mutable conditions of our minds and our hearts.

It is that time of year again, time for school to end and summer fun to begin. Our favorite time of year to celebrate with our friends and neighbors. To enjoy the weather and each other and the freedom to read every book with the leisure of longer days.

So join us for our annual Ice Cream Social and help us kick off our Summer Reading for 2026. Our goal is to accumulate more reading minutes than any year before, so bring your competitive spirit, read as much as you possibly can, and let us know how many minutes/hours you accomplish this July!

The Vincent House in partnership with the Wayland Free Library will be hosting a monthly grief support group. Grief through creativity will be lead by one of our newest volunteers, Amy Clark, MA/CAS, made possible through a grant from the The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes

Make history at your library!

Join libraries across the Southern Tier in celebrating
America’s 250 anniversary by participating in the
community time capsules! Community members are
encouraged to submit a drawing, letter, photograph or stop by the front desk at the library where we will have the prompts and drawing supplies available to do in house.

Submissions are accepted until August 31 and then the time capsules will remain sealed until 2076!
