When you call to register we will tell you how to best take a soil sample to bring along.

Tomorrow evening at 6 PM we look forward to welcoming Jessie Slayton back to our library for a third year in a row. You may remember her from our seed start program the first year of our garden series, or maybe our vegetable gardening class last year. Slayton is a flower farmer and master gardener for Cornell cooperative extension office in Steuben County, and one of the kindest gardeners we know.

This year her program will be focused solely on her favorite flower, the dahlia. If you would like to join us please call and register at 585.728.5380 as this class requires registration to attend.

The Vincent House in partnership with the Wayland Free Library will be hosting a monthly grief support group lead by Amy Clark, MA/CAS. Our next meeting is tonight at 5:30 PM

Every single person in their lifetime will experience grief, and each of us will handle it in different ways. There is no right or wrong way, no timeframe, and while grief may lessen, it never truly leaves us. Join us the fourth Monday of each month as we take time to honor, acknowledge, and process how we carry our grief.

Grief through creativity was made possible through a grant obtained by the Vincent House from the The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes in conjunction with the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc.

Last year we had master gardener Jessie Slayton for our garden series to teach us about vegetable gardening, and this year she is back to focus on her own favorite, a beautiful flowering tuber, the Dahlia.

Please come to celebrate learning all about caring for dahlias. So many varieties and diverse blooms, you are bound to fall in love with them as we have. This class will run on Thursday April 30 at 6 PM. Please call 585. 728. 5380 to register.

This earth day we would like to continue to spread love, awareness and garden seeds!

This past weekend our library participated in a community building experience at Fruition Seeds in Naples New York. Gathered were many representatives from other libraries, seed banks, and community gardens; together sharing our collective love of seeds and the gift of giving. We are currently restocking our seed library with those gifts we received while at Fruition and we will be soon ready to share those gifts stored within the walls of our little rural library.

Beyond our walls, and in our raised beds, we are hoping to grow deep personal connections and nutrient dense food. If you would like to participate in helping to plan, maintain, and harvest from our raised beds, please feel free to join us for our spring garden series or pop in to say hello anytime during the week.
