❄️STORM MESSAGE- In anticipation of the snowstorm forecasted for tonight and tomorrow, the DPW has the following message to assist crews in response activities, inform of expectations and to help keep people safe.
Due to the projected snowfall totals and existing snowpack, crews will focus on keeping roadways open and passable. The heavy, wet snow expected will slow operations and make removal more challenging. Due to the storm duration and intensity, sidewalk clearing operations will be significantly delayed. It may take several days before sidewalks are fully cleared after the storm. Sidewalks in proximity to schools will be the priority with commercial and residential areas cleared next. The School Department will convey in their messaging that school opening will not rely upon having sidewalks cleared.
In addition, the significant snow accumulation may impact sight lines at intersections and driveways. DPW crews will continue working throughout the week following the storm to address problem areas and remove as much snow as possible where visibility is limited. Patience will be needed as this will be a prolonged cleanup effort.
🚫 Parking Ban – In Effect Tonight at 9:00 PM
A town-wide parking ban will go into effect beginning at 9:00 PM tonight and will remain in effect until further notice. Vehicles left on the roadway during the ban may be subject to ticketing and towing. Keeping roads clear of parked vehicles allows our plow operators to safely and effectively clear snow.
⚠️ Reminder – Snow Placement
Per Massachusetts state law, it is illegal to push, plow, or snowblow snow into public roadways. Snow placed in the street creates hazardous driving conditions and can freeze overnight, creating unsafe conditions for motorists and plow operators. We respectfully ask for property owners and their contractor's cooperation in keeping snow out of the roadway.
🧹 How Residents Can Help
Residents can assist by safely clearing snow away from nearby catch basins to help prevent roadway flooding as temperatures rise. If possible, consider shoveling out fire hydrants near your property to allow emergency personnel quick access if needed.
Please use caution while shoveling and operating snowblowers, and check on neighbors who may need assistance.
Thank you for your cooperation and patience as our crews work around the clock to respond to this storm. Be safe.
