Today, 5 members of the Wayland Fire Department participated in a joint Technical Rescue Team/Dive Team training at a Milford Quarry.

Trainings like these help keep our members prepared for the high-risk, low-frequency incidents we may encounter. Working alongside regional partners in realistic training environments strengthens teamwork, sharpens skills, and helps ensure we are ready when our community calls.

Thank you to everyone involved for their continued dedication to training and safety.

Expect delays and consider avoiding the area if possible while crews work safely.

🚨 Blizzard Warning – Please Stay Safe ❄️🌬️

Our town is currently experiencing high winds, heavy snowfall, and very limited visibility due to the ongoing winter storm. Several areas are without power because of downed trees and wires.

⚠️ Please stay home if possible and avoid unnecessary travel. Road conditions are dangerous, and visibility is extremely limited.

🔌 If you encounter downed wires, stay far away and report them immediately. Assume all wires are live.

🧤 As you clear snow, please remember:
• Keep hands and feet away from snowblowers at all times.
• Never attempt to clear a jam while the machine is running.
• Use a tool — never your hands — to remove packed snow.

🚒 The Fire Department has increased staffing throughout the storm to respond to emergencies during these severe conditions.

Please stay safe, check on neighbors when possible, and monitor local updates.

We are in the midst of a serious winter weather event, and we will be providing periodic updates. Town personnel are diligently working to ensure the safety of the public through enhanced staffing and the road clearing efforts.

🚧 Road Closures – There are no know road closures at this time.

⚡ Power Outages – We are aware of a power outage in the Oxbow Rd/Campbell Rd area that is affecting 418 properties (7% of the town). Eversource crews have removed the live primary wire that was on the street. Please contact Eversource for a restoration time.

Please see their website for more information. https://outagemap.eversource.com/external/default.html

Please consider all downed wires as being live, and stay away from them.

Warming Center – The Training Room at the Public Safety building, 38 Cochituate Road has been opened as a warming and recharging center. The public is welcome to use this room to get warm and recharge electronic devices. 📱

If you're able to, please consider adopting a hydrant during and after the big winter storm. Shovel a path to the street and clear the snow for three feet in all directions. This is especially helpful in those areas where plows pile it up along the roadway, and it can save precious minutes in an emergency.

🚒❄️ Please shovel out your fire hydrant!

It only takes a few minutes now, but those minutes can be crucial during a fire. A fire can double in size every minute, and if firefighters lose time digging out a buried hydrant, that delay can mean the difference between a close call and a total loss.

If there’s a hydrant near your home, take a moment to clear it and make sure there’s space all the way around it. Small effort, huge impact.

Your few minutes could save a home — or a life. ❤️🔥
