🎓 WACO WARRIOR ALUMNI SHOWCASE | ALEX MOROZOV ’12

We’re excited to kick off our WACO Warrior Alumni Showcase by highlighting Alex Morozov, WACO Class of 2012!

After graduating from WACO, Alex pursued a career in education. She spent nine years as a classroom and special education teacher before earning her master’s in Educational Leadership. Today, she serves as the Director of Special Education and Elementary Dean of Students for the Anamosa Community School District.

Alex shared that her time at WACO helped instill the importance of community and serving others—values that continue to guide her today.

When reflecting on the people who made an impact, Alex recognized Mr. Dugger and Mrs. Reichenbach for helping put learning into perspective and preparing students for life after high school.

🏃 Alex was also involved in Cross Country and Track, and still remembers running around town with the cross country crew—and Coach Hilmer following along in his car!

Her advice for today’s Warriors:

“As you move forward on your journey, never forget where you came from or the destination you’re working toward. Remember the lessons that shaped you, the people who supported you, and the dreams that inspired you to begin. Keep moving forward, stay true to yourself, and never lose sight of where you want to go."

Thank you, Alex, for sharing your journey and for continuing to represent WACO through your commitment to education, community, and service!

Are you a WACO alum, or do you know a Warrior we should feature? Keep the submissions coming!

We’re excited to launch a new social media feature celebrating the people who have helped make WACO what it is today — our WACO Alumni Showcase!

🎓 Are you a WACO alum? We want to hear from you!

Tell us where life has taken you, what you’re doing today, some of your favorite WACO memories, and any advice you’d like to share with the next generation of Warriors. We’ll compile your information into an Alumni Showcase and feature it on WACO’s social media!

We can’t wait to reconnect, hear your stories, and celebrate where life has taken our Warriors.

A Lot is Happening at WACO!

We wanted to share a few of the recent updates around our Jr./Sr. High campus! It’s exciting to see several projects coming together as we continue investing in our facilities and creating spaces our students, staff, families, and community can be proud of.

A few of the recent updates:

🔹 “Home of the Warriors” exterior signage on our newly painted practice gym
🔹 New digital signage welcoming everyone to campus
🔹 New directional signage to help students, families, and visitors navigate our campus
🔹 A new and improved home for WACO Wrestling 🤼
🔹 Continued progress on our new press box 🏈

And there’s still more to come! Once everything is completed, both our new “Home of the Warriors” signage and digital entrance sign will be illuminated at night, adding another great look to our campus.

It’s fun to see these improvements taking shape. We have plenty more happening and look forward to continuing to share the progress!

💻 Tech Tuesdays are underway at WACO Elementary!

Today, our students kicked off the first of our Tech Tuesdays with Aaron Maurer from Mississippi Bend AEA! Aaron will be back after today working with our students on computer science and computational thinking.

And one of the best parts? No devices. No logins. No Wi-Fi. Just students thinking, building, problem-solving, and learning that the first idea doesn’t have to be the final idea.

Aaron shared some great advice for families after today:

🏠 Ask your child two questions tonight:
What did you build?
And, more importantly, what did you change?

Want to try it at home? Grab six identical objects from a junk drawer—paperclips, coins, dice, pasta, whatever you have. Give everyone the same six objects and say: “Build a duck.” You have 60 seconds. Then compare what everyone created!

And remember these four words:

NOTICE. TRY. CHANGE. EXPLAIN.

Our students will hear those words every month through May. They come directly from computer science thinking, but they apply to a whole lot more than computers—homework, problem-solving, disagreements with a sibling, and anything you build that happens to fall over. 😄

Pretty cool learning happening at WACO today.
