Throughout the month of June, our Litter Control Program continued working to keep Wayne County clean, safe, and beautiful. Thanks to the dedication of our Litter Control Officer, our community service workers through the Home Confinement and Western Regional Day Report Center, and the support of our residents, we made significant progress across the county.

UPDATE, 8:45AM: East bound I-64 has reopened at this time.

7/13/2026 7:10 AM, The East bound lane of I-64, between Exit 1 and Exit 6, remains closed this morning due to a large hole on one of the interstate bridges. Crews have been working to get it repaired and hope to have it reopened later this morning. East bound traffic is being diverted off I-64 at Kenova, and back onto the interstate in West Huntington.

UPDATE 7/13/2026, 8:45AM: East bound I-64 has reopened at this time.

Due to a hole forming on the East Bound I-64 interstate bridge, just prior to Exit 6, the east bound lane has been closed at Kenova. All east bound I-64 traffic is being diverted off of I-64 at Exit 1 and being rerouted to Rt 60 and getting back on the interstate at Exit 6.

The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
Northern Wayne County until 400 PM EDT.

* At 1253 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Huntington, Wayne, Hamlin, Beech Fork State Park, Cannonsburg, Barboursville, Kenova, Catlettsburg, Ceredo, Centerville, Burnaugh, Durbin, Princess, South Point, Burlington, West Hamlin, Lavalette, Lockwood, Salt Rock and Branchland.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 64 in West Virginia between mile markers 1 and 11. Interstate 64 in Kentucky between mile markers 182 and 191.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
