A few weeks ago, questions arose regarding missing swings in some Wayne Parks....

I tried to answer .... ad I'm not a Municipal Park Specialist ....

Good afternoon Councilman Dowd,

After our playground inspections this season, our Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) informed me that we have swings at several City parks that do not meet current safety standards. As we develop a plan to address these deficiencies, I felt it was in the best interest of the City and the community to temporarily remove the swings due to safety and liability concerns.
I was informed that the primary issue with these swings is that they do not have Engineered Wood Fiber (EWF) underneath them. These are older swing sets that have never had a proper soft-fall surface installed. Installing EWF for the first time would require a Certified Playground Installer to ensure the appropriate depth and installation requirements are met to comply with current safety standards.

I understand the community's interest in having the swings returned, and our goal is to do so once we can ensure they are properly installed and meet the applicable safety requirements.
