WAYNE NJ IS IN THE TOP 5 MUNICIPALITIES FOR HATE CRIMES IN NEW JERSEY! A statistic not to be proud of!

NJ has released hate crime totals town by town for 2020. As a resident of Wayne, I am disturbed by the fact that we have one of the higher numbers - 28 reported. We are in the top 5!

It is interesting that many of the municipalities with the higher numbers are affluent. So what does that tell us?

MENTAL HEALTH ALERT

For people living with mental illness, life is difficult even in the best of times. Now, with the corona-virus epidemic, we are being told to self-quarantine, personal distance from others and remain home. This result is that everyone is becoming isolated from members of their extended family and friend.

This contact can be a keystone to the mental ill in maintaining a sense of stability.

If you are feeling depressed or suicidal, call the NJ Hopeline at 1-855-654-6735, the National Suicidal Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255, 911 or go to your local hospital.

If you know someone with mental illness, now is the time to check in with them on a regular basis.

As human beings, we must watch out for others during this difficult time.
