Haven House We provide crisis intervention services for those affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and harassment.

Haven House is a private, nonprofit agency. We are part of a state and national network of domestic violence programs. Haven House generates no income through fees for services. We are funded by grants, private foundations, and donations. Community support and volunteers are also vital to our continued operation. Our mission is to empower, shelter, and advocate for survivors of domestic violence a

💜Elder Abuse Awareness Month💜

June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month. At Haven House, we recognize that abuse can happen to anyone - anytime, anywhere. It especially does not discriminate against age.

📊Approximately 10% of individuals will endure some form of Elder Abuse. 1 out of 24 cases are not reported to the authorities. Many cases are not reported out of fear of not being listened to or taken seriously.

This month, we shine a light on the silent battle that many elderly individuals face, and we stand with them.

Abuse is never just a one-time thing. It is often a pattern of behaviors that build up over time, leaving survivors feeling helpless, fearful, and alone.

🔄This wheel shows the different tactics abusers use to maintain power and control over their victims, and it is important to learn and be able to identify these behaviors.

Awareness is the first step to putting an end to abuse. If you or someone you know experiences these behaviors, please seek out help. There is hope, and you are not alone. 💜

"Domestic Violence" - When you read those words, what is the first thing you think of?

Most immediately think of the physical impact rather than the mental impact.

This month, we want to bring awareness to the impact of domestic violence on mental health. Something that is overlooked too often. The connection between domestic violence and mental health is much stronger than we think, and it should never be ignored.

Two of our Haven House staff, Kennedy & Janet, had the opportunity to attend a training hosted by Sandhills Crisis Intervention Program (SCIP) on May 13th in Ogallala. Led by Andrew Campbell, this training focused on issues that are seen within domestic violence and how to best support the individuals that were impacted.

💚 May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

Today, our advocates wear green in recognition of mental health awareness month. We strive to end the stigma and promote mental wellness. Sexual and domestic violence can leave a severe impact on survivors. Research shows that survivors of intimate partner violence are three times more likely to experience struggles with their mental health. Anyone can be struggling with their mental health at any given time, and it is important to show that they are not alone. At Haven House, staff believe survivors, challenge the stigma surrounding mental health, and provide emotional support through active listening while prioritizing confidentiality and safety for every client.
