Wayne County 911’s Supervisors Amber and Cindy set up at Spring Valley High School for Career Day… and so did Jerry. 💀📞

Jerry’s been waiting all year to tell students about exciting careers in emergency communications. He may be all bones, but he knows the backbone of public safety starts with dispatchers.

Students stopped by our booth, grabbed some goodies, met Jerry, and learned how you can answer the call to serve your community! 📞✨

🔥Today, we shine a light on one of the steady voices in the chaos, Kaila 🔥

1. What made you want to become a 911 dispatcher?

-💛I’ve always had a strong desire to help people.

2. What is something people don’t realize about what you do?

-💛How much goes on behind the scenes. A lot of people picture 911 dispatchers as just “the person answering the phone,” but the reality is way heavier and way more skilled than most people realize.

3. What do you like most about dispatching

-💛Problem solving in real time, the connections you make with your coworkers, and knowing you actually helped someone.

4. What keeps you motivated on tough days

-💛My daughter. Being someone she would be proud of

🖤💛Today we recognize Cindy’s dedication🖤💛

1. What made you want to become a 911 dispatcher?

-💛 My dad was a paramedic, so public service has always meant a lot to me. I also want to give a special nod to my friend Lisa at Lincoln County 911. Years ago, when I worked for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, I admired the dedication and professionalism she showed in her work. She inspired me, and I’ve always wanted to follow a similar path of service.

2. What is something people don’t realize about what you do?

-💛As a supervisor, we are responsible for training new hires, reviewing calls and ensuring the shift goes smoothly. We also want to be there for our dispatchers in every supportive way to ensure they grow in their careers.

3. What do you like most about your role
-💛It gives me a sense of purpose. Don’t get me wrong, being a mom and wife is most certainly one as well. I also like helping people and leading a great group of people.

4. What keeps you motivated on tough days

-💛 My driving force is the desire to excel in my role and make Wayne County, my colleagues, and my family proud

The opportunity came about unexpectedly. I noticed there was an open position and decided to apply. It had always seemed like an interesting role, so I thought I’d give it a try.

2. What is something people don’t realize about what you do?

—💛What is something people don’t realize about what you do?
I wish more people understood how much dispatchers do behind the scenes. It may seem like we simply answer phones, but the role involves so much more.

3. What do you like most about dispatching

—💛What do you like most about dispatching?
I enjoy being able to help people in our community. I also appreciate the fast-paced nature of the job and that no two days are ever the same

4. What keeps you motivated on tough days

—💛What keeps you motivated on tough days?
I stay motivated by knowing we’re helping people on their worst days. I always want them to walk away from that experience remembering that their dispatcher was calm, caring, and kind.
