And just like that, School Resource Officer Serman is back for another exciting 2026-2027 school year. Officer Serman is a 2011 graduate of Wayne Memorial High School, and a Marine Corps Veteran. SRO Serman has been with the police department for 5 years.

Although he is assigned to WMHS, SRO Serman makes an effort to be present in all the schools in the community. This year, SRO Serman is looking forward to building stronger relationships with the students. He wants students, parents and staff to know that he is always available and willing to help, no matter how big or small the concern.

The Police Service Aide is a great position if you are looking to get started in the criminal justice field. Wayne’s second annual National Night Out was a huge success. Families from around the community had the opportunity to enjoy some food and meet our police officers, firefighters, and DPW workers. Thank you to everyone who helped organize the event, and thanks to all of the citizens who attended!

Chief Strong will be hosting a Police Community Meeting at the Wayne Police Department on 8-27-2026 at 6:00pm. Citizens are welcome to attend in person. For those who don't wish to attend in person, a recording of the meeting will be shown on Youtube, Facebook, and City Cable.

Chief Strong will provide an update on recent police activities, crime trends, crime prevention tips, and a variety of other important issues.

In addition to graduating, Officer McDonald was honored with the Christopher Hampton Memorial Award. Officer McDonald will begin her orientation at the Wayne Police Department next week. Congratulations to Officer Alzayadi, who honored as the 2025 Wayne Police Department Police Officer of the Year at last week's City Council Meeting. Officer Alzayadi was selected as Police Officer of the Year for his proactive policing and commitment to the community. While presenting Officer Alzayadi with his award, Chief Strong stated, "Officer Alzayadi is exactly the kind of officer we want patrolling our streets – he cares deeply about keeping our streets safe by arresting dangerous criminals and enforcing traffic laws, while also realizing the strong positive role police officers play in working with the community."
