The Waynesboro Fire Department invested in the future of the department by sending two of our fire officers to the 2026 Virginia Fire Officer Academy and the Virginia Chief Officer Academy. Congratulations to Battalion Chief Tyler Clark for graduating from the Virginia Chief Officer Academy and congratulations to Captain Jarod Cave for graduating from the Virginia Fire Officer Academy. We would like to take the time to acknowledge them for their commitment to the department and their dedication to making themselves better fire officers.

We would like to congratulate Firefighter Josh Major on his well-deserved retirement, which became effective today.

Josh began his journey with our department as a volunteer and was hired full-time in November 1999. For more than two decades, he has demonstrated unwavering dedication to the fire service, the department, and the citizens of Waynesboro.

From the beginning, Josh distinguished himself as a committed firefighter who continually sought to expand his training and knowledge. His accomplishments include earning an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science from J. Sargent Reynolds and completing numerous certifications and specialized training throughout his career.

Throughout his service with the department, in addition to his daily responsibilities, Josh served on several committees and helped develop the specifications for multiple engines and the ladder truck. Josh has always been known in our department for his exceptional attention to detail, whether maintaining apparatus, caring for equipment, or supporting station maintenance.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Josh for his many years of dedicated service. We wish him the very best as he enters this next chapter of his life.

We will celebrate the Official Grand Opening of Waynesboro Fire Department Station 2. While we did a flag-raising ceremony in January before the snowstorm to utilize the station during the storm, this official grand opening marks the completion of the final construction and the official grand opening of the station into full operation. Waynesboro Fire Department will be hosting an uncoupling ceremony, a fire department tradition to represent the official dedication of the facility, on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 9am. Following the uncoupling ceremony, we will be hosting an open house throughout the day on April 15 for community members to visit and come tour the station.
